Good News and Good Advice

Can I still get my vote to the States in time to be counted?

American citizens are reminded that they can still submit their absentee ballots at the consular section for timely mailing to the States. See www.fvap.govv for voting information.

How can I get a new passport if I lose track of mine?

If you are a resident in the Dominican Republic, not a tourist, you must first schedule an appointment for a new passport.  The wait time for an appointment varies, but it is usually at least 30 days.  Once you have had your appointment and completed all the requirements to obtain a new passport, it will take up to three weeks for your passport to arrive.  Only a few exceptional hardship cases  qualify as the kind of “emergency” that allows you to get a passport immediately.

What if I am late for my appointment?

If you are late for your appointment, whether for a passport or a Report of Birth, you must schedule a new appointment.

Once I have had my appointment with the vice-consul, how much time do I have to provide the items required for a new passport or a Report of Birth?

You have 90 days to provide pending items or your case will be closed.  However, if you contact the Consular Section within the 90 days to let us know you are still trying to get the required items, your case will remain open another 90 days.  Our email address is:  acssantodom@state.gov
